It's been some time since a celebration was appropriate here in our Great Republic, unless it was a celebration of corruption, venality, ignorance and intolerance. We've seen those Cardinal Vices as we may justly call them applauded and enjoyed for too long, thanks to the depraved administration fecklessly governing us and its craven allies in Congress and the courts. The urge to glory in a major defeat of the kleptocrats in power is understandable.
The lengths to which the wretched supporters of the status quo were willing to go to avoid what took place was remarkable. The old cry of Communism was even raised. I doubt most Americans know what Communism is, or Socialism for that matter. The possibilty that Muslims might be elected induced some to even claim that efforts to impose Sharia Law would be made. Here in God's Favorite County, only the the imposition of a fundamental form of Protestant Christianity will be tolerated, and indeed pursued. There were also allegations that Democrats would compel minors to undergo sex change operations without their parents' permission.
Happily, the clear majority of American electors aren't as gullible as believed by the various con-men now in power. Even the millions spent by the man I've called the Evil Twin of Richie Rich in his efforts to buy elections came to naught.
American elections were called advance auctions of stolen goods by either or both Ambrose Bierce or H.L. Mencken. So, it's been known for some time that it's money that matters in American politics. That will no douubt remain the case, especially as the obliging Justices of the Supreme Court have decreed that spending money is speech.
But it may be that we have learned, at least, something about the delusional meglomaniac and narcissist who has been the primary cause of the decadence and decay of our nation which will move us to reign in his grotesque whims, and make certain we don't see his like again.
Even that would be a triumph in these times, though we should hope for more. Not a triumph of the kind celebrated in ancient Rome (like that of the Emperor Titus shown above). In this case, no enemy of the nation has been entirely subdued. But there's a hope now that a particular kind of hateful fate has been avoided.
